Casitas Tenorio B&B is our home

Stay a while – it can be yours too

Casitas Tenorio is our business and our home. We are Donald Varela Soto and Pip Kelly Varela and we are a Costa Rican/ Australian couple. Casitas Tenorio B&B is more than just a place to stay – it’s an invitation to experience Costa Rican life as part of our community. This is a working dairy farm, where we grow our own food and are working to regenerate the forest on areas of the farm. We combine our B&B with our farm in a sustainable way and share our love for the land and our community with our guests.

Casitas Tenorio B&B is a perfect destination for anyone who wants an insight into rural living in Costa Rica. Take the opportunity to see some truly spectacular birds, flora and fauna – on site, and in the surrounding area. Whether you’re travelling alone, with friends, or as a family, we can help make your Costa Rican escape a memorable and unique experience.

At Casitas Tenorio, you’re perfectly placed to visit Rio Celeste, located in the Volcano Tenorio National Park – one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful sites. There’s so much to see and do around the farm and village itself – hiking, bird watching and horse riding – you can have the full Costa Rican experience right here. Let the local people, geography and wildlife treat you to a truly incredible stay.

You’re welcome to join us here

Casitas Tenorio B&B isn’t just a place to lay your head – it’s an invitation to see the harmony between authentic rural life in Northern Costa Rica and the natural resources that are so important to us

Hurricane Otto was the strongest Atlantic hurricane on record this late in the year and the first Hurriane to ever make landfall in Costa Rica since records began in 1851. It created widespread damage across southern Nicaragua and Northern Costa Rica.

One of the hardest hit communities was our town of Bijagua in northern Costa Rica. Hurricane Otto smashed through the center of Bijagua creating absolute devastation and destruction. A month’s worth of rain was dumped in a few short hours. A head of water turned a small stream into a raging river and swept though the town taking everything in its path. Houses, roads and bridges were completely destroyed.  Five community members lost their lives and we are all in mourning.

We need your help. Please donate now.

We have formed a local committee of residents of Bijagua to seek donations for members of Bijagua.  The committee is working closely with the ‘Bijagua Development Association’.to manage and distribute the funds collected during this campaign. The Bijagua Development Association is a legally registered association

The committee will work with the Bijagua Development Association to effectively  manage and distribute monetary donations to those families in need .A census has started to record which families have been impacted and what their needs are. Funds will be used to assist these people to re-establish their lives. They need places to live, furniture, white goods, clothes and other supplies. All donations received will directly go to the community members who have been impacted.

Please note: Our business is open and all the restaurants and other services in the village are operating. The road access to the national park is open. The damage from the hurricane was concentrated in one area. You do not need to cancel your reservation- in fact the community needs tourism and your visit is valued.
