We are located in Northern Costa Rica, between Volcano Miravalles and Volcano Tenorio.

Bijagua is located between Volcano Tenorio and Volcan Miravalles in northern rural Costa Rica. Casitas Tenorio is 2.5km from the village of Bijagua, on the slopes of Volcano Tenorio, and is an ideal base for discovering the Volcano Tenorio National Park and Rio Celeste.

You can get to Bijagua by public transport (local buses) from San Jose, Liberia, Cañas or Upala. You may also arrive by  Taxi from Cañas or Upala or travel in private car. We can also arrange private airport pick up and transport for both San Jose and Liberia airport arrivals.

Driving from San Jose or Cañas

Follow the InterAmerican Highway (Route 1) north towards the town of Cañas.  About 175 km from SJO (105 miles), 6 km past the town of Cañas, turn right towards Upala (Route 6).  Follow this road for about 38 km to the town of Bijagua.  Just past the Mussmani Bakery, turn right and take two left forks.  Casitas Tenorio is about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from where you turn. Watch for the sign on the right. The road  is rock and gravel  but there is no need for 4-wheel drive.

From Liberia

Follow the Inter-American highway south towards Cañas. Turn left at the intersection and follow Route 6 towards Upala for about 38kms. Enjoy the spectacular panorama views of Volcano Mirravales and Volcano Tenorio.

From Central Bijagua

Once you arrive in Bijagua (if arriving along Route 6 from the south) you will pass the Banco Nacional on the

right hand side of the road. Continuing towards the centre of town you will pass the pizzeria ‘El Barrigon’ and the small soda ‘Las Tinajitas’. You will then see the Musmanni Bakery and its orange sign on the left (if coming from Cañas). Next to the bakery there is a small grocery store called ‘El Supermercadito’. You will notice a sign and a small intersection. Turn right at the intersection here. Follow the road towards Heliconias Lodge. Keep left at both y-intersections continuing for about 2.5km.  On the right you will notice a sign with ‘Casitas Tenorio’ painted on it. Pull into the car park

, relax and get ready to have an enjoyable holiday. *The road is bumpy and unpaved however a 4X4 is not required.

Catching the bus

Please advise us of you estimated arrival time, so that we can pick you up from Bijagua. Alternatively; you can take a local taxi from the bus stop to Casitas Tenorio for about US$5.
